30/11/2016Ultimately, I found this a sad book about a woman with severe personal problems who was badly let down by those upon whom she should have been able to rely for help. Clergy appeared too interested in finding themselves a new saint to realise the terrible strain that Teresa Higginson was placing on herself. Others may disagree, and I am aware that she still has a devoted following, but it seems to me that this is a story of a life wasted.
