The Anvil was the parish magazine for St James Church Birkdale and was edited by the Vicar Rev. J. M. Morris. Renamed the Anvil by Rev. Morris to hammer out the issues of the day. Frank Hampson illustrated the front cover from April 1948 onwards. Together Frank Hampson and Rev. Morris were responsible for creating The Eagle and Dan Dare comic series.
