Davis won the BAFTA and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and also the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance By an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. The film was also nominated for a second Golden Globe in the category of Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama (Washington) and three further Academy Awards including Best Picture.
